Kasθanaia

OBJECTIVE

Objective of the "Kasθanaia" project is the production of chestnut flour and its products of high biological value with reduced environmental footprint by utilizing the 2 categories of chestnuts (small & waste) by combining eco-innovation and research innovation (eco-innovation & R&D).

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Specific objectives of the project are:
1) To maintain and increase the producers' income by achieving independence from the Italian market.
2) The upgrading of chestnuts (their processing is non-existent in Greece), and the guarantee of uninterrupted supply regardless of demand.
3) Sustainability of cultivation.
4) Utilisation of small chestnuts and fallen chestnuts that are considered waste
5) Maintenance of the population, especially young people, in the mountainous areas of Greece which are at risk of desertification
6) Exploitation of an innovation in order to transfer new knowledge that will contribute to the development of an alternative, competitive and resilient sector of agriculture affecting in the long term the food security of our country.
